Long Overdue

I know, it's been a long time since I last posted.  Things have been busy, stressful at times, but mostly I've just flat out neglected my blog on purpose.

Over Labor Day weekend, we were in Washington, D.C. and Fredericksburg, VA for my cousins wedding and reception.  They were sealed in the DC Temple, then we had lunch at the Mt. Vernon Inn - the same Mt. Vernon where George Washington lived.  The food was fantastic, but it would have been nice to go over to the actual house where George and Martha lived.  I've never been.  We just didn't have the time.  The next day we spent all morning and afternoon and half the evening finishing decorations for the reception and setting up.  They had the reception outside, which turned out to be perfect.  Before the wedding cake was set up, and before any of us knew what happened, Tanner decided to take it upon himself to do a little quality control on the top tier of the cake.  He took a massive bite out of it.  I was so mortified.  Fortunately, everyone had a great sense of humor and thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever seen.  Thankfully they were able to cover up the bite a little bit with the stems of the fresh orchids that were put on it.

Nick has been applying to jobs anywhere there is one available.  The beginning of the month he interviewed for a position at the hospital just down the way a little bit.  He had a good shot at that job, but two weeks later we found out the position was given to someone else.  It was kind of our last ditch effort to stay here close to our parents.  A few days later, Nick got a call from a place in Wisconsin.  We had to make a decision over the weekend if we wanted that job or not.  We ended up graciously declining because there was just too much travel involved.  We found out last week that it was a no-go on the VA job he applied for in Durham, NC.  He was considered for that job, but again, that position went to someone else.  So, here we are, back to square one.  We're waiting to hear back from a couple places.  In the mean time, he's working per diem, or as needed, at a few facilities.  But after this week, the shifts are going back to few and far between.  We know something will come up.  We're just not sure when and where.  We have a few months of cushion, but that's not going to last very much longer.

The boys are growing fast.  Tanner is fully potty-trained now.  He can go potty all by himself.  He has to have his privacy whenever he goes.  He's such a big boy now!  Spencer is extremely possessive of the trains, cars, and balls in the house.  Even though they are toys for everyone, Spencer thinks they only belong to him.  Lately he's taken to sitting on the couch with all the trains and cars in the corner piled right next to him so he can keep guard.  What a goof!  Bennett is growing so quickly.  He's starting to stand all by himself.  He's eating table food and feeding himself most times.  He's really starting to be jabbery.  He's filling out a lot lately.  He's still a little kid according to the growth chart, but for him, he's getting some chub!!

As for me, I'm just trying to keep everything together.  It's been pretty stressful these last 6 weeks.  I've had more stress headaches than I care to ever have again.  There have been times where I've wanted to forfeit being the mom and wife.  But then I remember why I love my husband and my kids and things are good again for at least an hour.  Because of Nick's employment, I'm unable to go to my high school reunion in San Antonio this November.  I was really looking forward to going.  I guess maybe I'll catch the next one in ten years.

So that's the Surdukowski's for now.  Always something happening!
