When Nick and I first got married, I gave up my cell phone and cell phone number to him so that I could get in touch with him whenever I needed to while I was at my desk at work. That never bothered me until today!
I'm not eligible for an upgrade on my phone for another year. Nick wasn't supposed to receive an upgrade on his phone until May next year. While I was looking at our bill online I noticed that Nick's line is available for an upgrade now, and if he waits until May, he'll get more of a discount because of HIS continued loyalty with verizon wireless. THAT WAS ORIGINALLY MY LINE THAT HE HAS!!!!! I have wanted to get an iPhone for over a year, ever since I saw my brother's phone last summer. Nick could care less about upgrading his phone. I want that upgrade so bad! It just really frustrates me.

Over-Dressed
I sent the boys to their room to take a nap after lunch. It took a little while for them all to fall asleep, but just when I thought they were asleep I heard Spencer's door open. I go investigate and standing in the doorway was Spencer. I immediately started laughing. He looked like he pulled out every single shirt and pair of pants that he had and put them on. It was pretty funny. I start peeling off the shirts he put on, which happened to be only two on top of the t-shirt he was originally wearing, so that's three shirts. I then started to peel off his pants, which were pajama pants. I took off four pairs of pants before I finally got down to his shorts that I put on him this morning. It just had to laugh. I thought about taking a picture only after I'd taken off the extra clothes. I need to be quicker about that!
Spencer will definitely be our son who is the most interested in clothes. As soon as we get home from church he runs and gets a new shirt and shorts. They never match, but it's something he has to do every time. I love that kid!

Earthquakes & Hurricanes
So we experienced our first ever, earthquake. Apparently there was a 5.9 earthquake that happened not too far from where my aunt and uncle live near Fredericksburg, VA. We felt the effects of it here, and all up the eastern seaboard to Martha's Vineyard, MA. CRAZY!! I wasn't sure what was happening. I thought I was having a dizzy spell again, but this was way different. I realized what it could be when I saw the swing moving, and the fans were swinging back and forth. That is such an odd sensation!
Later that same week we prepared for Hurricane Irene!! This is the first real hurricane I've experienced in my life. In 2003 we got the effects of Tropical Storm Isabelle, that was once a hurricane, and that was some heavy weather. This time was completely different. By Wednesday we knew the hurricane would be coming our way sometime Saturday night. So I took Tanner and we went to get a few emergency essentials that we didn't have. Things like water jugs, a couple extra flashlights, batteries, a few munchies, and extra diapers. It was a good thing we did that on Wednesday because by Thursday night, everything emergency related was gone from the stores and the lines to buy water and other food stuffs was at least an hour wait to check out. Nick and I debated to get a generator or not, but weren't sure if we could find one since everyone was sold out. Amazingly, Friday afternoon, we found a place that had a few left for a little bit more than what we wanted to pay, but I was glad we got one. We managed to get some extra gasoline for the generator and the cars, staked all the bigger things in the yard down, and prepared for the worst. Irene was supposed to graze us off the eastern shoreline of the state as a category 2, but thankfully it was downgraded to a category 1. Lemme tell you, that was bad enough.
The weather started taking a turn for the worse Saturday morning. The rain started and then early in the afternoon the wind started. We were supposed to have sustained winds of 80+ mph, but thankfully we only had 25+ mph winds with gust of about 55mph. The most intense part of the storm came between 6:30pm and 9:00pm Saturday evening. We had a few horrific thunderstorm barrel through here with tornados all around. We spent some time in the closet singing songs, and at my request, saying a few prayers. The eye of the storm came past us around 2 in the morning Sunday. I finally got a few hours of sleep after that. I made the boys bring their mattresses in the living room and sleep there for my sake. I didn't want to be very far away from them in case something happened.
Thankfully we never lost power. Nick was peeved that we bought a generator and didn't have to use it. I think of it as we're that much ahead of the game for the next storm, be it rain, snow, ice, or whatever comes our way. We had a lot of downed trees in the area, and a lot of flooding. Thankfully our house sustained no damage. We were very fortunate and blessed to make it through without any problems.
For the most part we were very well prepared for the storm. We had all of our affairs in order beforehand, so we just had to ride it out. We know what we can do better for the next time, and we plan to do better about that before it gets too late. Now we need to get prepared for whatever winter storms we may get this year. Things like getting our fireplace looked at and cleaned. Getting more wood for the fireplace. More food storage built up in case we're snowed in. More water stored. Things like that and we'll be golden to ride out whatever comes our way this winter. It really does ring true that the more you're prepared the less you need fear. I completely get that now.

Momma Needs a Break
I've had a really stressful summer this year. Not because I've had a lot to do, or a lot of places to go, but I've really had a personal struggle with the boys and with myself in general. Nick and I haven't been seeing eye-to-eye a lot lately either, so that's added to my stress level. You know, it's been three months since I had Wyatt. He's a great baby, and I love him to death, but I have really struggled with having four kids. I was never scared to have four, in fact, I was more freaked out about having three, but four seemed like no big deal. But, I've struggled a lot with dealing with four very different boys.
Tanner demands a lot of attention. And I mean a lot of attention. He very much has to be the center of attention. And when you play with him, if you don't play his way and by his rules, he throws a huge hissy fit and I especially don't want to play with him then. He's always wanting to watch this show or that, or wanting to watch a movie. I hear, "Can I watch a movie?" at least five hundred times a day. And that is no exaggeration!! He's always asking me if we can go to Grandma Surdukowski's. Always!! When Nick is home and goes outside to work, I have to literally shove Tanner out the door so that he will go play outside. And I have to repeated send him back out so he'll stay out there. He really wears on my patience.
Spencer is a whole different ball game. He gets in these moods that really baffle me. And he's done this since he was a little baby. If you ask him if he wants to say prayer before bed, he shakes his head no, but when you ask someone else to say the prayer, he completely flips out and starts throwing himself around and crying. So when you ask if he wants to say the prayer again, he shakes his head no, so you proceed to just say the prayer without him, which does NOT go over well. We then just have to pick him up and take him to his room while he's screaming and thrashing and shut the door in order for him to scream it out. Not sure why he does this, but it's exhausting! He thinks every toy is his and so when Bennett or Tanner want to play with the 20+ trains that we have, he flips out and throws a fit. If someone sits in his couch, he flips out. He won't eat dinner. He hasn't eaten dinner in who knows how long. He'll only eat if it's peanut butter and jelly, pancakes, or cereal. And I'm not kidding. I start making dinner and comes to investigate. The first thing out of his mouth is, "Mommy, I don't want dinner." We were sending him to his room if he didn't eat, but he enjoyed that too much. So now we make him sit at the table with the rest of us. He and Bennett are, a lot of the time, like oil and water. They don't get along most of the time, but they both egg each other on deliberately. There is a lot of screaming on both their parts with this.
Then we have come to Bennett. For the most part Bennett is a good little kid. He doesn't like to listen very well a lot of the time and he'll say, "No!" or ignore me a lot of the time. He gets into trouble for that. He likes to scream a lot. Ear-piercing screams too! When he's in his moods he likes to throw things. Right now he's been dealing with a nasty cold for a week, so he's really cranky on and off all day.
Wyatt! My dear sweet Wyatt. In the three months that he's been on this earth with us, I see how much he acts just like Tanner did when he was a baby. That scares me to death! Tanner could never relax. The only time he was relaxed was when he was sleeping, and a lot of the time, not even then. Wyatt is the same way. He's always moving. Constantly moving. He won't even relax while he's eating. He's always moving his legs or arms, or both the entire time. Just never sits still. I have to hold him a lot like I did with Tanner as well. Keep him up and constantly moving. It wears on a person! He screams bloody murder in the car seat. It's bad! I'm exhausted by him alone!
So I have a lot to deal with during the day. I don't do a lot of the household chores I should to keep up our household, so on days like today, when I've let things go for weeks, I have a lot of cleaning to do in one day! I really need a break. So thankfully I get to take one next month. I'm able to go with my sister to my niece's baptism out west. Nick and I disagreed about this for a little while until he understood that I really need this break from the boys. Granted I'll have Wyatt with me, but I'll take him alone over all four of them any chance I get.
Don't get me wrong, I do love my kids. Spencer loves kisses and hugs and he's constantly showering me with them! Tanner is a snuggly bug who loves to sit next to you and cuddle in with you. Bennett has the most infectious smile! He smiles and you can't help but laugh at him, he's so cute. And Wyatt just loves to have you talk to him. Sit there and talk with him and he'll talk and smile right back for at least 30 minutes or more. They are blessings in my life, but I think it's okay to want to get away for a while.

Initiation
Welp, Wyatt has been successfully initiated into the Fall-off-the-Bed Club! I teach piano lessons on Thursday afternoons at my mom's house. I put Wyatt down for a nap on my parent's bed like I usually do. As I was laying him down I thought to myself, "He's moving around a lot in his crib lately, maybe this isn't such a good idea." But I shoved that thought aside and carried on with laying him down.
I get half way through my lessons when Tanner, Spencer & Bennett come down the stairs after their no-sleep nap. I was listening to one of the songs my student was playing when I heard this high pitch sound, and I kid you not, it sounded just like the air going out of the air mattress that I blew up for Tanner upstairs. So I didn't really pay much attention to it. I heard it again, only this time I heard my mom go running down the hall. I knew then what happened and then I took off running. I make it to my mom's room just in time to see my mom holding Wyatt, and both he and my mom are crying. I do a quick once over on Wyatt and figure out he's okay, just a little scared, and I head back to finish the piano lesson.
Afteward, I go back and grab Wyatt, who at this point is smiling and cooing up a storm, and I know he's okay. Scared my poor mom to death. It's happened before to my other kids, so I don't get all worked up about it in the end. At first it's a little scary when you're trying to make sure they're okay, but afterward, it's not a big deal if nothing is wrong. Shoot, two of the boys have fallen all the way down my parent's staircase without injury, Tanner has fallen down them twice. I know a few people who would have really flipped out on the adult who was keeping an eye on the baby. But what's the point, it happened, there's nothing you can do about it now, just brush it off and move on. No big deal, no harm done. And he's just the same as ever! I heard Nick later talking to Wyatt saying, "It's a good thing you're made of rubber!" I had to chuckle. He's such a goofball!

I've Had It
I'm ready to give up. I just don't want to try anymore. Nothing seems to be working and I'm ready to be done with it.

One of Those Days
I've never ever had to call poison control before. That is before yesterday. I was up in the attic going through some of the boys clothes and the boys were in the living room. I came back down and Spencer says to me, "Mommy, Bennett has your vitamins." I could figure out what he was saying until I looked at Bennett and he's got a handfull of my Tums, and about as many in his mouth. I immediately freak out and call my mom. She tells me to call poison control. They tell me that he was fine and that there aren't any harmful side effects because he hadn't eaten enough of them. Phew!!
Later I put the boys down for a nap, but Spencer came out and sat on the couch with me. He ended up falling asleep so I took in to sleep on my bed. Well he didn't stay asleep, and when I went to check on him, he tells me that he ate one of my vitamins. I look to where he's pointing and my heart sinks. He's gotten into my jewelry box where I know that one of my migraine pills is at. I really freak out this time. I called my mom again and she told me to take him to the emergency room. I called poison control AGAIN, and they told me that because he only ate one pill that it wasn't going to be harmful. The caffeine in the pill was the only thing that would do anything to him. Thank goodness!!!
