Oh Blankie!

Oh Tanner!  I'm about to do something that is going to really upset you and you probably won't realize why I'm doing, so you're just going to cry and be miserable and confused for a long time.

Tanner and Spencer have blankets that they tote around with them.  Tanner is super attached to his and does not sleep without it.  A few weeks ago Nick took the boys on a father/son campout.   After this campout his blanket came home with a hole straight through from side to side.  I knew then that that little hole was going to be the beginning of the end.  Tanner cannot leave holes alone.  He has to pick at them and pull at them.  Today, this little hole goes almost half the lenght of his blanket.  The stuffing is coming out, and there is no way of repairing the damage.  I'm going to have to put the blanket in the garbage soon.  And it kills me to do it.

After Tanner's nap this afternoon, I noticed the size of the hole and I told him that I was going to have to throw his blanket in the trash.  He's sitting next to me all cuddled up as I tell him this, and he then says in the most innocent voice ever, "No, mommy.  My blankie is my best friend."  How do you react to that?  This part of being the mom stinks - breaking your child's heart.
