Spent the evenings of my weekend tending to my sick Tanner. Out of nowhere Saturday evening Tanner started saying, "Hurt. Hurt." After figuring out his knees hurt, his toes hurt, his back hurt, and his hair hurt, I figured something wasn't right. He was acting wrong, I could see the goosebumps on his arms and legs, and he was not quite right. I was able to get some medicine in him, and that's when the fever started. Tanner has been diagnosed with "pyrexia", which is a fancy term for extremely high fevers. So when he has a fever of 102, I don't fret anymore. And that's what happened. His fever that night got up to 102. After falling asleep, I woke up to check on Tanner, and noticed that he had gotten sick all over himself. So we cleaned him up and got him back to bed. His fever broke, and he slept the rest of the night.
Sunday we kept Tanner home from church. He spent the day pretty much normal. I noticed that he wasn't entirely back to normal, but he was getting there. We wanted to go for a walk that evening, so after some fussing from Tanner and sending him back in the house, Nick, Spencer, and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. Coming back to see if Tanner wanted to come with us, my dad said that Tanner was starting to act like he did the night before. Sure enough, he was shivering, he said he hurt, and his fever was back. Back up to 102, and this time, no getting sick. He didn't get comfortable enough to fall asleep until well after 11pm when his fever broke.
So this morning I called the doctor, because he'd been coughing and had a runny nose. We spent three hours there waiting to find out what's going on. After a few different doctors checking him out, the doctors decided that he had a little mucus in his lungs. So they gave him a breathing treatment while we were there, and then he was checked again. His lungs cleared up after the breathing treatment. So I was sent home with a nebulizer machine with orders to give Tanner a breathing treatment every 4-6 hours. Tanner hates the nebulizer machine. He screams and fights every time it turns on. That's been fun.
He's been coughing a lot more to get his chest cleared out. He's been acting a little better this evening than the last two nights. I watched him to see if the fever would come back. He felt a little warm earlier, but his temp was only 99. So that was a little comforting. I have to watch him closely the next few days to make sure that things don't get worse. I'm exhausted. I need a good night's sleep!
