Not Again

Tanner starting showing signs of being sick again on Sunday.  We noticed that he was a lot reserved and not really acting himself.  That evening I checked his temperature and it was around 99-100.  Not too much to worry about since he gets extremely high fevers.  So we let it go at that.  Monday morning his temperature was about the same only this time, he was just wanting to sit or lay on the couch and not do anything.  After his nap his temp was 102.  I knew then that something was going on.  So I called the nurse at the pediatrician and she said to see what he does during the night and call in the morning if he still has a fever.  His fever goes even higher that night, up to 103.  So I call the doctor in the morning.

His temp at the doctor was 103.6.  They call his condition of extremely high fevers Pyrexia.  Great! My kid has a condition!  Anyhow, they swabbed him for strep which was traumatic for all involved.  A little puke and lots of crying later the test was negative for strep.  However, he's got a serious case of tonsilitis.  His tonsils are so swollen that they're just about touching.  So back on the antibiotics he goes, and if you know Tanner, he doesn't do medicine very well.  He makes himself throw up even before the medicine touches his mouth.  So it's been trying just to get him to take the medicine.  So far we've done pretty good with only a little puke, but it could be worse.

During his nap yesterday his fever broke.  He was soaked!  It was like he'd jumped in the pool!  His shorts and shirt I could wring out because of the sweat.  So here I'm thinking that we're on the mend.  He eats a little dinner last night, he's playing around, and he goes to sleep with no problems.

About midnight we hear him.  He's crying and his fever is back.  I manage to get some medicine in him and he goes back to sleep.  This morning he wakes up with zero fever!  All morning he's doing great.  He ate some cheerios for breakfast and is playing and having a good time.  Then around lunch I notice he's starting to get quiet again and he's just laying on the couch.  His fever was back.  I manage to get him to take his antibiotic and get some tylenol in him and get him to take a short nap.  The fever came down, but he was still in a lot pain.  I think the medicine finally kicked in about an hour later because he's acting a little better now.  He's still a little reserved for him, but hopefully, just hopefully, this time he's on the mend.  We'll see how tonight goes though.

I'm just so tired of this!  He was sick just a month ago!  And before that he was sick just a month before that!  And the month before that, and the month before that it seems all the way back to February!  Scratch that, it feels like he's been sick ever since the first time he got terribly sick when he was 6-months old.  And it's not like he just gets a little bit sick.  No!  He has to go and get as sick as can be!  I cried this afternoon for him because I'd done all I could do physically to make him feel better and he just wasn't getting better.  He was in so much pain and crying and he just looked at me and said, "I want to feel better."  Breaks my heart!  I feel so helpless in these situations!  I just want my little baby to get back to normal health!!
